A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen is a play about a woman who is keeping a secret from her husband. When the secret comes out she gets a different reaction from her husband than she was expecting.
I didn’t like the ending at all. But I suppose that was the only thing that the wife felt she could do. I would still recommend this if you don’t mind reading things in play format.
Night Flyer is a book about a teen, bullied by his peers, who finds he can use astral projection as a means to seek his revenge. He goes about the task of murdering all of his tormentors only to die himself in a tragic incident. But what awaits him in the afterlife?
Late Late At Night is the autobiography of Rick Springfield best known for his 80’s hit Jesse’s Girl. It tells of growing up in Australia and of his childhood friends. It tells of his close family. It tells of his adventures with early bands and escapades with girlfriends. It tells of fame and failure. It even tells of his lifelong love affair with dogs. But mostly it tells of his struggles with depression. This book is a must for any Springfield fan, but can be enjoyed by anyone.
Children Of The Whirlwind by Leroy Scott could possibly be the best book I’ve ever read. It takes place in New York City during prohibition. Its main focus is on two young people: the beautiful Maggie raised in poverty and forced to live among criminals and Larry the newly out of prison con man who just wants to go straight. It tells a story that is full of suspense as the characters lives interact with each other. Poor Larry is wanted by the police and is being hunted down by a gang of criminals while he desperately tries to prevent Maggie from beginning her own life of crime. I would recommend this book to everyone!
The Mother is a movie about a 60ish woman whose husband dies so she goes to live with her son. Her son is going through financial troubles and his wife can’t stand the mother. The one plus is that they are having an addition put on their house and the mother builds a friendship with the handsome young carpenter. She eventually moves in with her daughter who it turns out is sleeping with the carpenter who it turns out is married. The daughter enlists the aid of the mother to find out what the carpenter really thinks of her. Instead the mother manages to seduce the young man. She feels no guilt until her daughter finds out. Then she contemplates suicide. I found the movie a bit slow and the sex scenes were too graphic for my taste. On a scale of 1 – 5 I would give it a 3. I would recommend it with some hesitation.
The Coincidence Of Kallie And Kayden is the story of two college students who meet and eventually fall in love. Kallie is a drab girl with a secret in her past. Kayden suffers from beatings by his father and self injury from himself. The two friends are well developed and likable. Seth being Kallie’s gay best friend and Luke Kayden’s hulking jock best friend. I felt the mysteries of the two lead characters should have come out earlier in the book. And I don’t understand why there was no ending. The story just stops. I have since learned that there is a sequel planned but I still would have liked some sort of ending. That aside, I would still recommend this book especially to young adults.
Days Like These by Ayesha Ally is a short story about a day in the life of a young woman trying to get through the death of her mother. In her day she misses the bus which was to take her to a job interview which turns out to be the springboard for the entire story. It is well written and left me wishing it had been longer.
I thought that OK was along the lines of People or Us instead it is more like the Enquirer. I wouldn’t read it except I bought a subscription and feel like I’m wasting money if I just throw it straight into the recycle bin. I wouldn’t recommend this magazine to anybody. Just finished an article about how Kourtney and Scott are fighting again. Go fig.
Falsely Accused is a book of both vampirism and business intrigue. The story centers around a female vampire who is a specialist in business takeovers. This particular business is a sporting goods empire who is on the verge of being taken over by a much bigger company. I found the book to be confusing in parts. Even the author rights an afterword to explain parts of the book! I wouldn’t really recommend this book.
Choices is a book of vampire erotica. It is the story of a woman who runs a pastery shop with here gay best friend. One day she meets two men and makes a date with each on consecutive nights. They both turn out to be modern day vampires and she falls in lust with both. When they find out about each other she realizes she must choose between the two. If you enjoy erotica the sex scenes are quite good but I found myself so intrigued with the plot that I often skipped over the sexual interludes. I would recommend this book but only to those who are not bothered by erotica.
